Eurovision Torrents

May 8, 2007 by upyourego

I love the Pirate Bay, not just because of what they are but more for who they are. They have an amazing sense of humour and unlike many other torrent sites they’re European.

I also love them for their latest creation - Eurovision Torrents.

OK so I accept that the Eurovision Song Contest is a giant pile of smelly cheese but it’s also brilliantly camp cheese dressed up in a frilly pink dress and political badges.

Most of the time the music is horrific and it makes you want to rip your ear drums out but there can be little gems as well. Add to that the unbelievably funny scoring, interviews and performances and you have a show unlike ANY other.

That’s why I love the Eurovision - I sit down with my wife and eldest daughter to watch the whole spectacle unfold as last years winner tries to outdoor the previous years winner in terms of production.

The Eurovision Torrents website gives you information on every one of the Eurovision contestants, full length videos to watch online (Flash Player) and the ability to download the video to your computer (using BitTorrent).

You can also vote for your favourite contestant, giving it a rating out of five and comment on each of them.

The best Eurovision songs according to Eurovision Torrent users at the moment are:

* (Bulgaria) Elitsa TODOROVA & Stoyan YANKOULOV - Water
* (Finland) Hanna PAKARINEN - Leave Me Alone
* (Belarus) Koldun - Work Your Magic
* (Moldova) Natalia BARBU - Fight
* (Sweden) THE ARK - The Worrying Kind
* (Georgia) Sopho - Visionary Dream
* (Switzerland) DJ BoBo - Vampires Are Alive
* (Iceland) EirĂkur HAUKSSON - Valentine Love
* (Germany) Roger CICERO - Frauen Regier’n Die Welt
* (Greece) Sarbel - Yassou Maria

Personally Israel is going to get my vote for the cheeky brilliance of the lyrics and the way it switches between about a million different genres of music in just 3 minutes.

Andorra is an interesting one as well with a very Blink-182, EMO song - it has elements of Busted in there as, when they sing in English - instead of it being an Americanised accent - it’s very ‘English’.

As for ‘our’ entry - Scooch - I don’t think it will do very well because of the politics of the Song Contest BUT I do think it’s a fun song - camp, cheeky and funny.

What we really need to do if the United Kingdom wants to stand any chance of winning the Eurovision again is for the ‘United Kingdom’ to split up.

Ireland already give us a decent number of points so we need more friendly neighbours to vote for us.

Scotland needs to enter in its own right as does Wales, Cornwall and Northern Ireland. Then if we get Jersey and Guernsey to enter we may stand a chance.

That way we should get at least 12 points from at least one other country. Jersey and Guernsey would give a high profiles English entry 12 points but I doubt Cornwall or Scotland would.

I’ll be live blogging the Eurovision Song Contest right here on Saturday night.
